Economics from the University of Zimbabwe. She has undergone training in
Leadership for Development from LEAD international. She is the Chief Business
Planner at the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), where she
previously held the position of Strategic and Business Planner. She has also
attended many courses on management, project planning, policy, strategic
marketing and advanced power sector management. She has worked as an
administrative assistant, senior administrative officer and assistant secretary
in the Department of Energy. She has contributed to several major publications
among them the Rural Electrification Masterplan for Zimbabwe.

He is currently the Head of the Strategic Planning Department in the
Ministry of Infrastructure of the Government of Ethiopia. Mr. Mengistu

from the University of Malawi. She has worked as a research assistant for the
Malawi Industrial Research and Technology Development Centre, where she was
involved with renewable energy performance, efficiency analysis and
environmental impact assessment. She has also worked as a technology assistant
for the Malawi Entrepreneurs Trust with duties of, among others, project
proposal writing, budgeting for donor-funded projects, planning, implementation,
monitoring and evaluation of UNDP/Government of Malawi EDEP projects. She has
also worked as a field-supervising officer for Canadian Physicians for Aid and

College Dublin, Ireland. Formerly, he taught marketing at the University of Dar-es-Salaam
and has held a visiting position at University College Dublin. He has been
consultant to several businesses in Ireland, Tanzania, and Botswana as well as
to the International Trade Centre. His research interest is in business
performance, economic reforms, customer satisfaction and international business
analysis. He has authored several publications in these areas as well as on

environment; charcoal production in earth kilns; the demand and supply of

holds an MSc (Eng) in Electrical Engineering from the Hochschule Zwikwau,
Germany. His work experience includes design and implementing utility-based
solar project, and studies on demand-side management opportunities on the
potential for energy efficiency in Zimbabwe. He has attended workshops and
published papers on development of renewables in developing countries, and
played the role of advising Zimbabwean government on appropriate energy
policies. He has also been involved in projects in the field of renewable energy
and energy conservation; carried out a feasibility study on electrification of
several centres in Zimbabwe; developed electricity sector standards; production
of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) annual energy and demand
forecasts, and carried out surveys on energy to ascertain role of power

late Mr. Ngobese was the Assistant Director General in charge of Farmer Support
and Development at the National Department of Agriculture. He had an MSc. Degree in Agricultural Economics from Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University and a BSc. Degree in Agriculture from
the University of Zimbabwe. He had attended courses on environmental management
in development, monitoring and evaluation of public sector projects and on
agricultural project planning and analysis. He also had extensive experience in
project appraisal and evaluation of rural development projects in
environmental impact assessment. He had

in the Southern Africa Development Community region.

options for greenhouse gas mitigation under power pooling in southern Africa;

Mr. Chikuvira holds an MSc. Degree in
Engineering and a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical
Engineering. He has over nine years experience in various teaching and
engineering positions. He has worked with the Scientific and Industrial
Research and Development Centre (SIRDC), Zimbabwe, rising to Senior
Research Scientist in the Energy Research Institute of SIRDC. He has
undergone training in ISO Quality Management and Power Systems
Development. He has diverse experience in energy management; end-use
efficiency; and, demand-side management and has published several
articles on energy management, demand-side management and energy audit
reports. He has been a consultant as an energy expert and is currently
working at the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).

Dr.
Deepchand holds a PhD Degree from the University of Mauritius, and a
Diploma in Agriculture and Sugar Technology. He is a Sugar Technologist
by profession and was a Researcher, Lecturer and an Associate Professor
at the University of Mauritius from 1977-1997. He is currently the
Deputy Executive Director/Technical Manager at the Mauritius Sugar
Authority, which is the apex organisation on sugar matters in Mauritius.
Dr. Deepchand has contributed to a wide range of technical reports on
issues related to the sugar industry and special publications in
international journals such as the International Sugar Journal, the
Energy for Sustainable Development Journal and the International Energy
Policy Journal.

Nicholas Mariita holds a PhD from the University of Texas, El Paso, USA and an
MSc. Degree in Applied Geophysics from the University of Birmingham in the
United Kingdom and a BSc. Degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University
of Nairobi, Kenya. He is currently with the geothermal development division of
the Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen). He also has Post
Graduate Diplomas in Geothermal Reservoir Monitoring from Kyushu University in
Japan and in Geothermal Geophysics from the United Nations University in
Iceland. Previously, he worked as a Geophysicist in the Geothermal Department,
Ministry of Energy, Kenya and has been involved in numerous hydro-geological,
resistivity and gravity surveys in Kenya. Dr. Mariita has authored numerous
reports and publications on the energy, geophysics and the geothermal sub-sector
in Kenya.

Engineering from the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi,
Ghana. He is currently pursuing a PhD on the interface of energy and the
environment. He has worked as a Tyre Development Engineer, a Process
Engineer, a Project Manager in a mining company and a Senior Chemist in
a cocoa factory. He has also worked as a Chief Energy Specialist with
the Department of Minerals and Energy in South Africa and a Manager for
the South African National Low Smoke Fuel Program. He has been involved
in environmental management issues within and outside the South African
Ministry of Minerals and Energy, the United Nations Framework Convention
on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Activities Implemented Jointly (AIJ) and
Global Environmental Facility (GEF). He has written several articles and
chapters in books on human capacity and institutional development with
respect to global climate change, energy and environment and has
consulted for a number of international and local institutions.
Mr.
Krispen Mashange,
Lead Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Mr. Krispen Mashange holds an MSc. in Rural
and Urban Planning, a BSc. in Economics and a Post Graduate Diploma in
Project Planning and Management from the University of Zimbabwe. Mr.
Mashange has also had training in environmental assessment in
development projects.

He is currently the Deputy
Director in the Department of Energy, Ministry of Mines and Energy,

principal researcher in AFREPREN/FWD’s Special Studies of Strategic
Significance Theme Group.

Charles Mbohwa, Lead
Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Dr. Mbohwa
holds PhD in Engineering on Environmental Impact Assessment from Tokyo
Metropolitan Institute of Technology, Japan. He holds an MSc. Degree in
Management and Manufacturing Systems from the University of Nottingham and a
BSc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe. He is
currently working as a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
University of Zimbabwe. He has undertaken consultancies for the United Nations
Development Program, Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre,
Southern Africa Development Cooperation, Cleaner Production Centre, the World
Bank and the Government of Zimbabwe. He has also worked as a Mechanical Engineer
in the National Railways of Zimbabwe. He has been a Visiting Fellow at various
Universities and attended numerous courses on energy and research.
Ms.
Elizabeth Muguti, Lead
Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Ms. Muguti holds a Masters Degree in
Business Leadership and a BSc. Degree in Chemistry and Biology from
Njala University College of Sierra Leone, and is currently pursuing a
MSc. Degree in Energy Policy at the University of Cape Town, South
Africa. She also holds a Diploma in Energy Engineering from Segesta
Technical College, Italy and a Diploma in Business Studies from Harare

and environment issues and development. She is an Assistant Director in

exploitation and use in Zimbabwe. She previously worked as Energy
Research Officer and Senior Principal Energy Development Officer. Ms.
Muguti has acted as resource person in many training workshops and
written numerous publications and papers on energy, women, environment
and development.
Mr.
James Ngeleja,
Lead Researcher, Tanzania.
Mr.
Ngeleja holds an MSc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad
Central de las Villas Santa Clara, Cuba; a Certificate in Saw Milling
Technology and Production Management from the International Training and
Technology Centre on Forestry and Wood Technology, Kotka, Finland. He
has undergone training on producer gas; biomass/wood-based energy based
energy production; and, energy and environment management.
Mr.
James Isingoma Baanabe, Lead Researcher, Uganda.
Mr. James Baanabe holds an MSc in Energy
Studies and is the Senior Energy Officer in the Ministry of Energy and
Mineral Development, Uganda. He has worked with the Sugar Corporation of
Uganda Limited in the capacity of Deputy Manager. He has attended a
training course in use of MESAP software (for calculating baselines) at
the University of Stuttgart, Germany; Energy Auditing at the Tata Energy
Research Institute, India; small hydro power in China and a Group
Training Programme in the field of Sugar technology held at the Research
Sugar Institute, Ankara, Turkey.
Ms.
Elizabeth Bore, Lead Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bore holds an
MBA and an MSc in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management from
the University of Zimbabwe. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons)
in Electrical Engineering. She is a Research Engineer at the Scientific
and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC), Harare. She has
attended courses on Energy management and Renewable Energy-Solar
Training Platform for Trainers. She is a member of Environmental Forum
of Zimbabwe (EFZ) and Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers (ZIE).
Mr.
Gilbert Ngoni Chapotera, Lead Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Mr. Chapotera is the Chief Economist, Rural
Development Fund, Ministry of Rural Resources and Water Development. He
holds a MSc. in Transport Economics from the Higher Institute of
Economics, Sofia, Bulgaria. He has also attended further courses on
Rural Development Studies (Galilee College, Israel), Asian Development
Studies (Institute of East Asian Studies, Singapore), Population Policy
Programme Management (Cardiff University, Wales, United Kingdom) and
Statistics for Development Policy (Institute of Development Studies,
University of Sussex, England)
Mr.
Tesfai Gebrehiwot, Lead Researcher, Eritrea.
Mr. Tesfai Gebrehiwot holds a BSc in Physics
from the University of Asmara. He works at the Energy Conservation Unit,
Department of Energy, Ministry of Energy and Mines. He has been involved
in collection and collation of energy consumption data from the main
consumer sectors in Eritrea. He has also been involved in energy audits
for all fuel types used in industries and in selected buildings in
Eritrea. He has participated in the preparation of laws, regulations and
standards with emphasis on energy conservation.
Mr.
Charles Moonga Haanyika, Lead Researcher, Zambia.
Mr. Moonga holds an MBA in
Environment and Energy Management from the University of Twente,
Enschede, The Netherlands. He also holds a BSc. in Electrical
Engineering from the University of Zambia. He is a Consultant with
Rainbow Energy Ltd. He has worked as a Guest Researcher at UNEP RISO
Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development in Denmark. He has
also worked as a manager for the Energy Regulatory Board in Zambia and
for the Mining industry of Zambia. He has carried out research on power
sector reforms and rural electrification and undertaken consultancy work
in electricity sector regulation, rural electrification, renewable
energy projects and energy management. He has also played a key role in
institutional and operational development of the electricity regulator
in Zambia.
Ms.
Thammary Rudo Madzonga, Lead Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Mrs. Madzonga holds an Masters in Public
Administration (MPA) and a BSc. from the University of Zimbabwe. She
also holds a Diploma in Business Studies from the Institute of
administration & commerce, South Africa. She has worked for the ministry
of Energy, Ministry of Education and Ministry of justice of the republic
of Zimbabwe. She has also worked as a research assistant for AFREPREN/FWD.
She is currently the Senior Manager (Administration) for Zimbabwe
Electricity Supply Authority Holdings Pvt. Ltd.
Mr.
Alois Posekufa Mhlanga, Lead Researcher, Zimbabwe.
Mr. Mhlanga holds both an MSc
in Renewable Energy Engineering and a BSc. in Physics both from
University of Zimbabwe. He is currently a Renewable Energy Research
Associate with FINESSE Program (Financing Energy Services for
Small-Scale Energy Users) at the African Development Bank in Tunisia. He
was formerly with the Southern Centre for Energy and Environment as a
Research Fellow.
